History

Carrying the Community Since 1947

1947 – The Beginning

Founded by Pat, Gerald, and Jack Ryan, together with their mother Annie, Ryan Bros. started with a single bus service from Aberfeldie to Moonee Ponds.

1970s – Building Momentum

The fleet grew with the introduction of Leylands, cementing our reputation for reliability and strong community ties.

1980s–2000s – Growing With Melbourne

Expansion saw the operation of routes 465, 467, and 468, making Ryan Bros. one of Melbourne’s longest-serving family-run bus companies.

2025 – A New Chapter

On 30 June 2025, our final route services ran after the government awarded our contract as part of the Zero Emissions Bus franchise tender. The community marked the day with a farewell celebration, music from the Footscray-Yarraville City Brass Band, and final journeys proudly driven by members of the Ryan family.

Today – Continuing the Journey

While our route buses have retired, Ryan Bros. continues as a trusted charter operator — still Carrying the Community with the same dedication we’ve shown for over 75 years.
